This.... this has been long overdue.
The power of the media is unimaginable and unquantifiable. What comes to your mind when you hear the word "terrorists"? What image comes to mind? Even we, being muslims, picture muslims. That is how powerful the media is. It hypnotizes beyond the borders of loyalty. The force is both latent and unpretentious. The tragedy of today is that this weapon is in the wrong hands and it is being put to the wrong use. This weapon of mass destruction destroys minds and this thought is aptly depicted in movies like V for Vendetta and Rung De Basanti, though being part of the mass medium family we come at a paradoxial crossroads of what to believe and agree with.
One can either take the easier path and disregard all that comes through, except guy soap commercials, they're a genuine article of stupidity. Not as genuine as Fox News, but that's got a political element which makes it ummm Haram.
Skin colour and religion does not wield one's actions, circumstances do. The media conveniently turns a blind eye to the circumstance and completely blows out of proportion, like a mole-hill mountain, the effect of the cause and circumstance. The idiots don't realize that this exercise may itself result in a circumstance/cause.
If you label a people as such and you treat them like it, what choice do you give them? There is no other option for them but to be terrorists because at the end of the shitty day they'll be treated as such.
Terrorists have no nationality. They can be a group of individuals, a corporate organiztion, a government, a military, they can take any shape possible and terrorize other normal people who are just trying to make a living in this world. Terror is just a cloak they wear. They are not even people, they are not human. Why don't terrorists terrorize each other, why does it have to be innocent people? Why do terrorists target and label innocent people as terrorists?
CNN and all the other news agencies are being managed by a bunch of pigheaded fools. The main function of a news broadcaster is to broadcast news and NOT opinions. Opinions mould news, opinions fabricate news, opinions make terrorists and opinions give them power. I just hope that one day I wake up to the fact that the UN has grown a pair of balls because right now, it is America's "Polly, I wanna give the cracker to Iraq. Is that ok with you?"... "Squaawk!!". Rat guts.
They report bits of important news and opinions, they don't report circumstances. That is why western news channels make me sick, though Geo should do something about their "Aik din Geo ke saath" host. The guy has a permanently goofy facial expression. Be it "Suna hai aap nai qatal karwain hain?" Or "Aap ki favourite hindustani adakara kon hain?" the guy keeps the same something's-up-my-ass face.
I yearn for guy soap commercials on eid, they are low budget but honest. AND there's a double pun involved too. One last query why does Ptv air news in Arabic in all four provinces? It has been the cause of many-a-sleepless afternons for me. William Wallace is a hero now, he was a terrorist then. Why can't these bastards learn from their mistakes?
And I do recommend V for Vendetta.
